Many thanks to Laurie Ann Quigley for offering to conduct a series of wildlife (bird) mentoring sessions. Laurie has agreed to conduct 3 half-day weekend sessions over the next 3 months, with a limit of 6 participants per session. The following dates, times and locations are provided for reference but may need to be adjusted due to weather conditions and the location of the bird sightings in certain locations. The first 2 sessions will be in the metro area, and the January session will likely be in Sheffield Mills.
Laurie will mentor participants in the following techniques (among other things): what gear to use; where to focus; what focus modes and focus points to use; getting into the right position; the importance of backgrounds; consideration of light and wind; how to approach wildlife; understanding bird behaviour; wildlife etiquette; key technical considerations like shutter speed and f/stops that work best in certain situations; etc.
For you to participate effectively, and allow Laurie to focus her time on helping the group learn good bird imaging techniques, it would be best if you know how to do the following:
You will get the most out of these sessions if you have a lens that has a focal length of at least 200 mm, plus a converter..
If you are interested in participating in one of these sessions, provide a comment below with your preferred dates (as above) in priority order. Please also specify what lens you will be using. We will try to accommodate your priorities as best we can, but since some sessions will be better suited to those with longer telephotos, we will try to match up participants to the most appropriate outing. Your initial confirmation may only be for a spot in the sessions, not for a specific date.
