Field Trip: Hobson Lake Falls (Sept 12th)

The return of the weekday adventures!

The Birch Cove – Blue Mountain Wilderness Area is a spectacular set of hiling trails located within the Halifax city limits. This is 3km round trip hike to Hobson Lake where a there is a beautiful waterfalls on the stream that exits the lake. The waterfalls is 4 meters high followed by 100 meters of cascades into a ravine.

You will also find mushrooms and other plantlife for macro enthusiasts.
This is a true wilderness trail so bring your hiking boots or a good pair of walking shoes.

For the truly ambitious there is approximately 30kms trails to explore after our field trip.

What to Bring

Camera – Bring your favourite camera and lenses, as the area provides opportunities from the wide angle landscapes to the macro details shots.

Tripod – Not necessarily required, but it will come in handy if you want to take longer exposure, waterfall photos.

Neutral Density and/or Circular Polarizer Filters – Also not required, but can help to lengthen your exposure time and cut through the glare in the water.

Comfortable Hiking Footwear  – Your feet and ankles will thank you.
